If you receive a debt settlement offer from a credit card company, you may certainly take that offer. We recommend that you get the offer in writing. We also recommend that if you do accept the offer and mail the company a check, you should make a copy of the check and send it using certified mail so that you will be able to prove that you accepted the offer in a timely manner. It may be best to run the creditor’s offer by an attorney to make sure that you’ve hit the bottom dollar and to make sure that the offer doesn’t enable the creditor to come back to you and say, “Thank you very much for your payment, now pay us the rest.”
